clique.the.mag x fred_poetichero x raw cultur One of this platforms’ first "People of the Pen" Fred Gordon dropped by and provided some gems in many forms on the Watch Your Mouth Podcast Episode .003 we discussed; Fred’s writing styles and what gets him in the mode to write, the catalyst for Fred’s writing and later aspirations to publishing material. Note From The Editor | This publication could not have been possible from a design and editing standpoint without the help, organization, and craft of the photography and visualization work of RAW CULTUR, check out some of the dope work being produced over there.
( More collaborations and projects are in the works with the media organization and will come to lite in later articles, videos, and mediums of content here at clique.the.mag.com ) The portrait shots of Fred in many different backdrops are spread throughout Fred's Moving Forward publication, find out more about the Sony snapping shooter at https://rawcultur.com/
FRED's BIO | Fred told clique.the.mag ”…Poetry affected my life in many ways when I first started poetry… This may sound weird, but poetry chooses me in a sense, because the very first piece I wrote was called Love is, in one of my high school classes. Then after I began pursuing it throughout the years in high school, I put it down for a while to focused on graduating. After I left high school, I began pursuing it fully it gave me something that I necessarily needed to progress forward; as a man, it provided me my truth. Poetry never asks for anything from me but my complete honesty with myself, emotion, reality, and perspective on things.”

Publications
Fred is set to launch two publications this year, the first being The Essence of My Passion which was a publication I helped Fred edit and design before the formation of the platform. Now that both of us have evolved in our respective fields and skills sharpened, we have decided to republish The Essence of My Passion. During re-publication, we will reformat the book giving it a new cover and a more compact cleaner look. We are taking a more branded approach with Fred's publications, seeing them as parts to a whole as opposed to stand-alone collections of poetry. As far as Moving Forward is concerned, the publication's layout, design, and content have another layer of art attached to them, symbolizing Fred's perspective on life and its many layers.

The Essence of My Passion | The Inspiration that birthed this publication & its common themes.
“The concept for this book came from the understanding of what my perspective on my creativity and art represented for me. My artistic work provided me an avenue of expression and self-awareness deep within myself. It showed me the freedom to be the person I wanted to become for myself. My work represented all of me my doubt, fears, anguish, sadness, love, compassion, apprehension. All the emotions I failed to express to people, came out in my work. “
- Fred Gordon | Interview with clique.the.mag
While going through The Essence of My Passion the idea that writing is a form of meditation became a common thread in my mind. The idea that someone could feel all these emotions expressed through 45 poetic pieces, ranging from doubt, fear, anguish, sadness, love, compassion, and apprehension told me that through thinking, writing, and iteration one may actually be able to hash these ideas out. The constant renegotiation with how to address a specific emotion as well as being able to overcome it through a means of this pen to pad pondering. The ideas and emotions are prevalent in pieces such as in; “…it is what lies beneath your heart, that makes you so perfect in my eyes…I don’t care if perfection is an illusion, imperfection is beautiful and perfect is what portrays you” (excerpt from 20/20 Love) and “Remember, you are one courageous individual when you walk your footsteps are powerful; to overcome any dilemma in your life keep in mind each obstacle you went through, you gain something out of it.”(excerpt from Overcome Your Obstacles). In analyzing the second quote we get an idea of what's to come, the growth, and triumph over the anguish felt in pieces before. This duality between the anguished and the overcomer shows itself in Fred's Second publication Moving Forward.
Moving Forward | What brought this publication to fruition & its common themes.
“The inspiration of "Moving Forward" came from the progression and process of my work as a whole, and as a person. The two go hand and hand; because one can’t work without the Other. To come to this point was a difficult journey, some areas of my life had to be properly handled with a degree of honor and respect.    I needed to learn to separate my career from my aspirations. I needed to get a healthy balance, so I could function more effectively while beginning the process of writing this manuscript.”
- Fred Gordon | Interview with clique.the.mag
While combing through Moving Forward the common themes from The Essence of My Passion arise, but are turned on their head. Polar opposites of the initial emotions of doubt, fears, anguish, sadness, love, compassion, apprehension from the first publication are met with gusto, encouraging, and powerful uplifting pieces. Unexplained and Poetry in Everything, show us just that with a character being confronted by the poetic-hero with words to cancel out their doubt and reassurance that they were meant for much more than down and out.
“…I told you flowers bloom for a purpose, not to be a figure of beauty but to appreciate each step taken, to go far in life.”
“The odds are not going to be in our favor ill except that, but I’m choosing to defy those odds and rewrite my own mythology.”
Fred paints pictures for the characters and those involved with imagery and exaggeration as if the initial point is falling on deaf ears. He carefully weaves in a passionate call to action with compliments and reassurance but towards the end of these pieces, the character has a call to action or something they should always remember.
you can find these pieces and more through his publications and works on Fred's Instagram @fred_poetichero
